I’ve had the opportunity to get to know a diverse group of extraordinary people. The ones I admire most are individuals who seem to embody wisdom and who seem truly and deeply happy from the inside out. These individuals have included elders, successful business people, spiritual leaders, political advocates, other therapists and educators. As I’ve observed these folks, I’ve recognized patterns in the habits that these happy and wise people all seem to share:
Habit #10: They honor the need for balance. They’ve learned how to structure their lives to incorporate balance between the dualities that we’re all familiar with - career and family, work and play, self and others, doing and being.
Admittedly, developing these habits used by happy and wise individuals can require some effort. Yet any or all of these skills can be developed over the course of therapy.
